A 12-week women’s health & wellbeing programme in Newham
Nourish & Flourish is delivered by Uplift Ventures CIC, a Newham-based community interest company focused on reducing digital exclusion, economic inequality and unemployment among disadvantaged and underrepresented groups.
Funded by the Newham NHS Inequalities Community Delivery Fund, Nourish & Flourish is a 12-week health and wellbeing programme for women from marginalised and disadvantaged communities in Newham.
Why Nourish & flourish exists?
Higher risk of long-term conditions such as diabetes and hypertension
Cultural food habits that are rarely addressed in mainstream health programmes
Confusing or conflicting information about “healthy eating”
Busy lives, caring responsibilities and low confidence to prioritise their own health
You do not need any previous experience with exercise or healthy cooking. This is a safe, supportive space to learn and try new things at your own pace.
Are from marginalised, disadvantaged or ethnically diverse communities
Are worried about their weight, blood pressure, diabetes risk or mental wellbeing
Want to understand how food, movement and stress affect their health
By the end of the 12 weeks, our aim is that participants -
- Understand how everyday food choices impact diabetes, blood pressure, weight and mood
- Feel more confident trying healthier versions of familiar meals
- Are more willing and able to build gentle movement into daily life
- Have clearer awareness of stress, emotional eating and mental health triggers
- Feel less isolated and more connected to other women in their community
